For You 2007

Church News >>

What do we usually think of when somebody mentions a youth retreat? Swimming? Campfires? Lots of shananigans? Well, if we think that about summer camp, then OK, but if we think that about the For You 2007 youth conference that Good Shepherd's youth attended, then we have the wrong impression. We had fun to be sure.  But it was not all just entertainment. We spent time in serious Biblical study on topics from The Quest for the Holy Grail to Men's and Women's Vocation in Marriage to Driving the Devil Away. In all there were twelve services including Matins, Vespers, Evening Prayer, Compline and the Divine Service; 5 one-hour plenary sessions covering the six chief parts of the Catechism; 3 in-depth
sessions; and 8 breakaway sessions covering numerous topics. How was such an intense week of catechesis received? Let me put it this way: By the second day our teenagers were already strategizing and looking forward to next year's conference. By the third day, they were designing t-shirts to sell in order to raise money for the trip. I guess the only question that remains is whether we go to Scranton, PA or St. Louis, MO? Thank you to all that made this year's trip possible. You are a blessing!
